The products and services to be offered by RR Engineering include

 

      Gensets, Solar Panels, Inverters, Charge Controllers and Batteries

A typical solar system consists of solar panels, inverters, charge controllers and batteries.  These systems are used for:

a)                  Communications industry to power VSATs.

b)                  Transport Industry to power traffic lights

c)                   Water industry to power solar pumps etc.

d)                  Lighting and Electrical appliances for the home and office

 

About 50% of the problems in the communications industry can be attributed to power failures.  The provision of solar energy to backup power for VSATs antennas and Cell Sites for the Mobile Phone operators will greatly increase the reliability of the communications industry in Ghana. 

 

       Solar Systems for Homes

 

 

   Option 1:         Small Standalone Home System 1 (100W PV)

The Small Standalone Home System 1 is designed for entry level residential homes.  It is capable of providing power for the following appliances:

(i)                  Four (4) 5W Compact Florescent Lamps (CFL)

(ii)                One (1) Radio Cassette Player

(iii)               One (1) 14” Black & White TV

 

   Option 2:         Small Standalone Home System 2 (200w PV)

The Small Standalone Home System 2 is designed for entry level residential homes with appetite for watching TV.  It is capable of providing power for the following appliances:

(i)                  Four (4) 5W Compact Florescent Lamps (CFL)

(ii)                One (1) Radio Cassette Player

(iii)               One (1) 14” Colour TV

(iv)              One (1) Table Top Fan

           

   Option 3:         Big Standalone Home System 3 (1000W PV)

The Big Standalone Home System 3 is designed for solar fans who are environmentally conscious.  It provides power for the average size home with all the modern electrical gadgets.  It is capable of providing power for the following appliances:

(i)                  Ten (10) 11W Compact Florescent Lamps (CFL)

(ii)                One (1) Stereo System

(iii)               One (1) Radio Cassette Player

(iv)              One (1) 21 Colour TV

(v)                Two (2) Ceiling Fans

(vi)              One (1) computer

(vii)             One (1) Energy Saving Refrigerator (115 Litres)

 

 

   Option 4:         Backup System 1 (1000W Inverter System)

The Backup Systems are designed for homes and companies that have the national power grid in place but need a solar backup system as opposed to a generator.  Enthusiast of solar backup systems usually target mission critical applications and devices such as computers, hospital equipment, radio phones, telecom satellite VSAT etc.  The backup system uses inverter battery charger and relies on the PV panels for the solar power.  The advantage of the PV is that for prolong power outages (exceeding 1 day), the mission critical applications will continue to function.  The power capability of the system includes:

(i)                  Five (5) Computers or

(ii)                One (1) VSAT terminal or

(iii)               One (1) medical equipment or

(iv)              Ten (10) Emergency Lights

 

 

 

       Solar Water Heaters

The marketing strategy for RR Engineering is to use Solar water heaters to target hotels and hospitals.  Large amount of energy is used when heating water.  In the past, the average cost of financing a solar heater is paid up after five years of electricity bills payment.  With the increase in electric bills by 60%, the payback time has been reduced to three and half years. the time to recoup the solar power financing cost will further decrease with the  expected increases in electricity rates in year 2003.

 

     Traffic Lights

There is also a large demand for solar power for traffic lights.  The traffic lights in most metropolitan cities malfunction when the national power grid that is used to power them fails.  There is a desire by the local municipal authorities (AMA, KMA, TMA etc.) to use solar energy to power traffic lights and make their operation independent of the unreliable national power grid.

 

       Solar Alarm Systems

There is an emerging market in Ghana for wireless solar alarm systems.  These systems use solar energy for power and therefore are able to operate even when the national power grid fails.

 

  Solar Alarm System Description

The Solar Alarm system operates over the public radio spectrum and requires no special license.   The system is designed to both detect intruders and act as a strong deterrent to suspecting intruders.  The system may be controlled from a Remote Control Unit or from a Security keypad by entering a four digit Access Code to arm and disarm it.  A coded wirefree Siren sounds a loud noise when intruders try to break into protected areas.  The system has option for two types of lenses, pet lens for the dogs and cats and normal lens for intruders.
